Commitment to the Education and to the Youth

Ação Educativa is an organisation established in 1994, with a mission of promoting educational and youth rights, aims at social justice, participative democracy and sustainable development in Brazil.

Ação Educativa believes that society participation in local, national and global processes is the way to construct a fairer country. Then, it combines training and support for groups and communities in neighbourhoods, it acts in broader articulations, knowledge research and production to influence public policy.

Ação Educativa capacity of execution results from the efforts made by its staff, as well as from the trust and collaboration with a broad national and international partnership network.

The commitment to the quality, innovation capacity and articulation with key actors in educational and youth fields are the three bases that support Ação Educativa history and realisations.

The right to lifelong learning

The Education field combines the action in schools and educational programs with broader public policy advocacy. It is set up by five programs: Youth and Adult Education, Action in School, Observatory of Education, Action in the Justice and Research and Monitoring of Policy.

The Youth and Adult Education program focuses on a particular kind of basic education and integrates actions as educator training, program support, research, information dissemination, production of contributions, moreover the participation in networks and forums. Curriculums, didactic materials and appropriated evaluation instruments are some of the products of our work.

Action in School develops and supports innovating educational projects focused on the school integration to the community and to the contemporaneous social problems, to favour learning contextualisation and relevance. The use of public opinion research as pedagogic tool and as quality indicators to mobilise the community for school improvements, these are the focus of our projects in progress.

The Observatory of Education monitors the education conjuncture, at national level, to impinge on issues or approaches adopted by the media, which drive the public debate about Education. For this reason, it follows and analyses the media coverage; promotes activities with communicators and communication students; produces and disseminates information on the educational conjuncture, specially for civil society organisations actions and positions.

Action in the Justice Program follows the public policy on basic education, to identify possible educational rights violation. It acts on Operators of Law training in favour of universalisation of basic education access and of standards of quality for public education. Also it attempts to influence on Justice System to re-establish the violated rights.

The program Research and monitoring of education policy comes from the presupposition that rigorous knowledge is a essential tool for society to exercise their citizen control of educational policy and to act in favour of a quality education for all. For this, it is dedicated to research, activists mobilisation and training on education issues and equity promotion, citizen control, international agreements and racial relations in education.

Youth as subjects of rights

The Youth field works as a field program, with support and capacitation for youth groups, educator training, knowledge production, action in networks and politic representation spaces, youth program support in partnership with public bodies and social organisations.

Education, culture, work, social and politic participation are some issues, in which Ação Educativa has accumulated more experience and through them guides its projects.

Based on demands of youth themselves, are offered courses and workshops on capacitation for the use of diverse languages – highlighted the video one – and on skills development to execute their own projects collectively. Moreover, Ação Educativa favours opportunities for integration into working life, in social and cultural initiatives, offering space for meetings, equipments and other resources to the groups.

The educator training actions focus on the comprehension of youth as subjects of rights, their needs and styles of learnings, their expectations in respect to the school and other formative spaces. The program gives special attention to the Middle Education proposals and its responsibilities related to the general educational training, integration into working life and youth citizen participation.

The research production on youth condition in Brazil gives support for all these actions and for integrated policy propositions to respond to youth needs, considering their age particularities and diversity with regard to their territorial, class, gender and race belonging.

Colours, music and poetry mobilise the communities

The Culture and Social Mobilisation Space provides services for the population and for organisations, offering its facilities, equipments and experience in event promotion. It still has a regular program of courses and workshops for art-educators.

The main objectives of this space are strengthen the production of artistic groups acting in urban peripheries and to democratise cultural production and circulation access. All this, joining culture, solidarity and citizenship promotion.
